So the most recent update package for Ubuntu’s Network Manager broke the app’s wireless functionality on Intel Macbooks (and possibly other machines, but I know mine was f****d and there have been similar reports elsewhere). NM would connect to a network, only to drop after after anywhere from a few seconds to five minutes or so; this was true on both Hardy and Intrepid, and made using my machine on the go a pain. In any case, my research on the problem led me to WICD, a GNOME-independent, self-contained alternative to Network Manager, and a superior one at that. Continue reading »
